MyLibraryDV Frequently Asked Question List
Q. What is MyLibraryDV?
MyLibraryDV is a service that allows you to download movies and television episodes to your computer for viewing.
Q. Do I have to watch the video on my computer?
If you have the capability of setting up your computer to send video to your television set, you can watch it on your TV through your computer, but your computer must do the playing of the video. You cannot transfer the video to a portable device like an iPod.
Q. What do I need to download and watch a video using MyLibraryDV?
MyLibraryDV installs a program on your computer that guides you through the process of downloading and watching a movie. The program requires Windows XP, Windows 2000, or Windows Vista to run as well as Windows Media Player 10. The program will not run natively in the Macintosh OS at this time.
The video files are very large downloads (150+ MB) and take a while to download even on a fairly fast Internet connection. It is strongly recommended that you have DSL or a cable Internet connection and have at least 1 GB free on your hard drive for storing downloaded videos.
Q. I've downloaded the software and I don't see any newer movies. There is no category called "Hollywood Favorites & World Cinema" or "Sony Pictures Entertainment."
When the MyLibraryDV player is first installed it is a generic version. Some of the movies that are available are a premium add-on and the program needs to download some updates. Unfortunately this can take a while (up to a half-hour) to download and new titles will not show up until the program is restarted.
Q. Can I watch a video if I am not connected to the Internet?
Any video which you have downloaded can be watched on your computer whether you are connected to the Internet or not. Consequently you could download a movie to a laptop and then watch it on an airplane, for example.
Q. How long can I keep a video I've downloaded?
Many videos available from MyLibraryDV will stay on your computer for a week after you have downloaded them. After that time the MyLibraryDV software will automatically delete them from your hard drive.
Some videos (specifically any movies from the "Hollywood Favorites & World Cinema" or "Sony Pictures Entertainment" categories under "Movies") will be available for playback for up to a week after downloading. However if you start playing one of the videos in these categories, they will be automatically removed from your collection 24 hours after you start watching it.
Q: How many videos can I have downloaded at a time?
In general you can have up to 10 videos downloaded at a time. Any videos which you have downloaded count against your limit of 10 for a week after you've downloaded them, even if you delete them manually from your computer.
Any videos downloaded from the "Hollywood Favorites & World Cinema" or "Sony Pictures Entertainment" categories do not count against the basic limit of 10. However you can download only one of these in any 24-hour period for a maximum of 7 in a week.
